TO THE MAX

Dean Crooke continued his domination of the Max Light class at Oran Park, to take 4 wins from 4 starts.
Chris Jewell held off a hard charging Patrick Atherton to win the Heavy division.

Races were 6, 5, 5 and 8 laps of the Oran Park GP circuit.

Crooke gave notice of what was to come, when he put his HyperRacer on pole with a 1:19.3384, 0.1 seconds off his 2007 lap record. Chris Jewell was fastest of the Heavy Max class, with a 1:21.6728.

Race 1 started with Crooke jumping into the lead with Alan Dodge, Anthony Gattellaro and Mark Vickers in hot pursuit. Crooke ramped up the action and drove away over the next 6 laps to win by 12 seconds and shatter his 2007 lap record of 1:19.0954 with a 1:18.2977. Crooke went on to win the day, with Anthony Gattellaro taking second overall due to a thrilling final, where he and Mark Vickers took the race to Crooke and challenge all the way to the finish line.

In the heavy division Chris Jewell won the day, after a torrid battle with Patrick Atherton. Although Atherton won the final, Jewell had done enough with 3 wins to take the day. This is how good the action was - check out the overall race times;
Race 1 - Chris Jewell 8:24.8006 - Patrick Atherton 8:25.0536 - Gap 2/10ths
Race 2 - Chris Jewell 6:58.4923 - Patrick Atherton 6:58.7301 - Gap 2/10ths
Race 3 - Chris Jewell 6:53.6107 - Patrick Atherton 6:53.7992 - Gap 2/10ths
Race 4 - Patrick Atherton 9:37.4254 - Chris Jewel 9:38.1610 - Gap 7/10ths
Atherton took the fastest Heavy division lap with a 1:20.7526. Jewell's quickest was a 1:20.9258.

Thanks again to Wayne, Shauna, Pelly and Clinton and all the New South Wellions for a great weekend.

Patrick Atherton before the start of race 4 - getting a little shut eye, while he dreams of beating Chris Jewell. Dreams do come true.

Sam Zavaglia was a jet in his 250 inter, winning all 4 gearbox heats easily.

All I'm asking, is that you let me beat Chris Jewell.
