A WALK IN THE PARK

Round 7 - Wakefield Park
21st September 2008

Dean Crooke took 4 wins from 4 starts and grabbed another lap record.
Round 7 of the Hyper Racer 2008 Australian 'Manufacturers' Championship
was run at Wakefield Park in NSW,
in conjunction with Round 5 of the NSW Club Championship.

Rotax MAX 125

Dean Crooke dominated the racing at Wakefield, to take 4 from 4 and the new lap record.
Mark Vickers and David Brand finished second and third.

15 Max's fronted for the race including 6 Hypers.
Races were 5, 8, 6 and 10 laps.

Winning most of the races by the length of the main straight, "a walk in the park" was the only way to describe Dean Crooke's day. For good measure he took the lap record on the last lap of the last race.
Mark Wicks had set the lap record in June at 1:07.3060. Crooke left it at 1:06.6994.

Of the other Hyper drivers, Patrick Atherton finished 6th and put in the third fastest time of 1:08.0136, behind 4th place Anthony Gattellaro's 1:07.9154.
Shaun Trounson had a great day despite a trip into a pond.
Hyper Rookie, David Sheedy, driving the ex-Wicks Hyper, got down to a 1:10.1337 in his first race meeting.

Hyper driver, Chris Jewell, summed up the day.
"I had a ball, and enjoyed the day’s racing immensely. We had some brilliant scraps from 2nd thru 8th in every race and the last one was the best of them, right up until I nearly de-legged a spun gearbox driver, pushing his kart off the track at the fishhook. My evasive actions put me a lap down but it could have been worse, much worse. My aim was to get into the 1:08s for the weekend which I managed to do in race two – just, and I can’t wait to get back there again on what is one of the very best circuits we race at."

Thanks to Clinton, Pelly, Wayne, Shauna and all the New South Wellions for a great weekend.
