AS CLOSE AS IT GETS

Round 4 - Phillip Island
31st May 2008

What damage? I can't see any damage.
Round 4 of the Hyper Racer 2008 Australian 'Manufacturers' Championship was held in conjunction with the Victorian Superkart Club Series at Phillip Island.
Hyper Racer had a great day, winning both the light and heavy Rotax Max divisions.

LIGHT
Dean Crooke won the lights from Hyper driver Russ Occhipinti with Brad Stebbing in third. In the closest racing this year, the top 4 or 5 drivers crossed the start / finish line side by side lap after lap, with just hundredths of a second separating them. It was fantastic racing.

HEAVY
With pole and 3 wins, Chris Jewell had his best day so far and won the heavy division.

Race 1 - Crooke, Occhipinti, Stebbing and Wicks on the run down to Honda.

Wicks backs an extra 17 kilos into MG as he chases the leaders.

Wicks (on right) to Crooke: "What, over Lukey Heights!! Side by side with Occa? You're shit'n me.
RPM "Hi Chris. Can we talk to you".
JEWELL "You've got 90 seconds bud - starting now".
RPM "You've just put your Hyper on pole. Can you talk us through that incredible lap".
JEWELL "Incredible is exactly right. It was the perfect balls to the wall lap. Edge to edge. I thought I was going to die at every corner. It was just awesome".
RPM "The talk ..............".
JEWELL "I was flat everywhere, Southern Loop, Honda, Siberia, the Hay shed.....".
RPM "Flat through Honda!! Don't you have to brake there".
JEWELL "You're not listening. Can't you see my lips moving. I was flat everywhere".
RPM "The talk is that you WERE flat over Lukey Heights".
JEWELL "Mate, I was definitely flat there - and airborne".
RPM "The crowd loved it".
JEWELL "The crowd always loves it when I'm flat and airborne".
RPM "If you had braked as late as all the other drivers do into MG, do you think it would have been an even quicker lap".
JEWELL "Sorry bud, the interview's over".
